Motherhood comes with a lot to worry about, including how to care, provide for, and protect your child, especially when it comes to their overall health. As a new mother, I quickly realized I was worrying about anything that could possible harm my baby. I was constantly reading and researching the latest studies in order to better prepare myself for making decisions towards my son. If you’ve read my previous blog post, then you know that I was not educated about baby gut health until after the first year of my child’s birth.
It’s been a few months now since I’ve learned about the importance of gut health. As a mother, I’ve learned the importance of making sure I’m providing my son with all the support he needs early on to set him up for a healthy, long life.
Since I’ve been using the Evivo probiotics for a few months now, I thought I’d update you all on the three things I’m happy I learned about baby probiotics.
1. First 6 months of baby’s life is KEY for their immune and metabolic development
A major point I’ve learned while researching how probiotics can help my baby is that the first 6 months of their life is crucial for their overall immune and metabolic development. When bad bacteria are pushed out and good bacteria thrive, baby is more likely to develop a healthier metabolism and a stronger immune system. This is why it’s important to provide your baby with probiotics right after they’re born in order to help them build a strong foundation for gut health. This will help protect and keep them safe from potential metabolic and autoimmune issues down the road.
This is my number one point because it caused a bit of mom guilt inside me as I wish I had known this information early on with having my son. Unfortunately, I learned about Evivo probiotics shortly after my son’s first birthday and missed the critical first 6 months of his life. As they say, better late than never, since learning about them they’ve been a daily part of our lives. Although I did not know about the benefits of starting probiotics early on with my first child, I’m glad that I have learned about their importance now and can use them right after birth with my future children.
2. Bad Bacteria is linked to higher risk of autoimmune and metabolic issues
The second point that I learned is that many autoimmune and metabolic issues such as colic, eczema, allergies, diabetes, and obesity later in life are linked to the bad bacteria that thrive in a child’s gut. By providing your baby with probiotics early on, bad bacteria are pushed out and good bacteria thrive, which is likely to help baby develop a healthier metabolism and a stronger immune system.
A few weeks after my son’s first birthday he became severely sick with a fever reaching 104 degrees F. As a first time mom, I was worried and scared. The doctor immediately put my son on antibiotics as he was having a hard time fighting an ear infection. The first round of antibiotics did not work – therefore he put him on a second round of stronger antibiotics.
He was having over 5X of watery poopy diapers a day and I knew the antibiotics he was on were leaving his gut with no good bacteria. I was worried that this would start causing other health issues. However, I was so thankful that I started him back on the Evivo Probiotics to help repopulate his gut with the good bacteria. After a few days of taking the Evivo Probiotics, I noticed his watery diapers decreased and were becoming normal again.
3. Evivo Probiotics and breastmilk go hand in hand
As a breastfeeding mom, I was happy to learn that Evivo probiotics help make the most out of my breastmilk. Since breastfeeding my son has been one of the hardest journeys I’ve been on, I’m happy to know that clinical trials have showed that babies that consumed breastmilk along with Evivo probiotics had their gut repopulate with good bacteria one hundred percent of the time. Since I’ve been doing extended breastfeeding, it has been reassuring to know that the Evivo probiotics go hand in hand with my breastmilk and help provide that much more benefit to my baby.
Now you take the test.
How do you know if baby’s gut is healthy? Thankfully, there’s now a simple 3 question Baby Gut Check you can take that will reveal if baby is one of 9 out of 10 infants missing B. infantis:
Question 1: Were you OR your baby born via C-section?
Question 2: Were you OR your baby given antibiotics pre-delivery or post pregnancy?
Question 3: Does your baby have diaper rash OR 5+ watery poops per day?
If you answered yes to one or more of these questions your baby’s gut may be in jeopardy. Your baby’s gut is likely missing the good bacteria B. Infantis, allowing many harmful bacteria to thrive.
Evivo probiotics have been a must in our home and for my baby and we will be providing him with them for the first few years of his life.
