What do you do with bananas that are ripening right before your eyes? You bake a banana bread … or two, or three, or four (I’m just kidding, that might be too much banana bread)! Seriously, this is my go to recipe whenever I’m in need of some banana goodness. This banana bread turns out so moist and oh so delicious! Did I mention it has chocolate chips and walnuts in it too? Now that’s good!
Before I go ahead and list the recipe below, I’ll let you in on a little secret. The first time I baked banana bread, it was solely because I wanted the aroma of the bananas baking to fill my house. Even until this day, more than the excitement of eating it after its baked, I get excited for the wonderful smell thats going to fill my house! One more reason to get me to bake; so I won’t complain!
Ingredients
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan with butter.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt and lightly mix.
- Add chocolate chips to flour mixture and mix.
- In a separate bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar. After they’re combined, stir in the eggs and mashed bananas until well blended.
- Pour the banana mixture into flour mixture and add walnuts to it. Fold the mixture together lightly just to moisten.
- Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
- Bake in preheated oven for 60 to 65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean.
- Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack.
The original recipe is taken off of allrecipes.com but I just added the chocolate chips and walnuts to my version! I also opted for dark brown sugar instead of regular brown sugar because I like the darker color this adds to the banana bread.
TIP: The riper the bananas, the more of the banana flavor you will get. My bananas are usually black before I bake with them! Also, make sure not to over mix the batter as this will change the consistency of the bread once its baked.
